EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I obtained certification through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP) as a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) due to my 15 years plus of experience treating clients who struggle with eating and body image concerns. As Clinical Care Manager for students with eating disorders at Stanford University for the past 13 years, I work with people suffering from Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, BED, OSFED, ARFID and Body Dysmorphic Disorder. At Stanford, I teach a 12 week seminar on treating eating disorders for pre and postdoctoral interns, along with interested staff. I earned two Masters Degrees; one in Education, the other in Counseling/Psychology and obtained a license through the State of Californian to practice Marriage and Family Therapy. My continuing education focus throughout my career has been to learn from colleagues about promising approaches to treating eating disorders.
TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: I provide a collaborative approach to treatment, emphasizing the importance of the client as the primary agent of change. We all know “one size does NOT fit all”. Therefore, I believe strongly in meeting clients exactly where they are, not only as individuals, but as experts in their own experiences. In addition, I cannot over emphasize the importance of working with a multidisciplinary team of eating disorders specialists (dietitians, medical professionals and psychiatrists) as essential to the recovery process. I utilize strategies from many evidence based treatment approaches, including DBT, RO/DBT, CBT and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. However, I strongly believe that flexibility is essential in providing care that is not only helpful, but leaves each client feeling good about the therapeutic experience. A strong connection between the therapist and client is the major ingredient in facilitating the recovery process.
