EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I am a graduate of the University of Chicago School of Medicine and completed a residency and Chief Residency at University of California San Francisco (UCSF). As the former Medical Liaison and a Board Member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP), I have provided care at all levels from outpatient, IOP, PHP, Residential and Inpatient. I served as the Medical Director of Cielo House, a Residential and Partial Hospitalization program for Eating Disorders, as a clinician for The Carlton Clinic, specializing in the care of adolescents and adults with eating disorders and as a sole practitioner in the Eating Disorders Clinic through Prima Medical Group in Marin. As a member of the a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders (AED) and the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP), I am a consultant to clinicians from all disciplines, a medical expert in cases involving insurance claim denial for eating disorder treatment and an experienced speaker on the topic of eating disorders and malnutrition.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: As a primary care doctor specializing in the medical complications of eating disorders, I have a deep understanding not only of the medical complications of eating disorders, but also the deep psychological, social and financial impact of these conditions on individuals and their families/support network. I am also aware that most primary care doctors don’t have the time, interest or expertise necessary to keep you safe and support your recovery.  I take the time to get to know patients and their unique story coming up with a plan to them safe and healthy. Working collaboratively with dieticians, therapists, psychiatrists and other providers, I refer to treatment team members who are proven experts in the field of eating disorders. Alternatively, I happy to work with existing treatment teams if someone comes to me with a team already in place. Additionally, I maintain close relationships with local and national treatment programs and can facilitate a refer to Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Residential or Inpatient Programs as necessary.

Yes, I think it is possible to recover from an eating disorder. Recovery to me is reaching a point when one is no longer suffering the physical and psychological symptoms of disordered eating. It is being able to food, relationships and life’s up and downs without intrusive eating disordered thoughts and risk of relapse.
