Rachel Goldstein

Psy.D.

CREDENTIALS/DISCIPLINE: I am a psychologist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders.

BOARD CERTIFIED: Yes – California Board of Psychology

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Number of years treating patients with eating disorders: 8-10 years

Number of patients with eating disorders I treat annually: 50+

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I received my M.S. and Psy.D. degrees from PGSP-Stanford Consortium and my undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. Over the past 8 years I have worked extensively with the eating disorder population in multiple levels of care and settings, including college counseling centers, residential treatment, day treatment centers, and currently in my outpatient private practice.  I have worked as a primary therapist where I provided individual, family, and group therapy, and I have also worked as a clinical director in which I was responsible for the provision of eating disorder treatment.  I have been serving on the executive board of the SF Bay Area Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP).

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: My treatment philosophy is that everyone can recover! I utilize evidence-based practices (DBT, CBT, ACT) to help give my clients the tools and skills needed to build up their healthy selves and challenge the eating disorder. I believe in addressing the eating disorder behaviorally and also understanding the underlying role that the eating disorder has played in the persons life – teaching the client to meet this need through other means.

I believe recovery is possible. I align with Carolyn Costin’s definition of recovery: “when a person no longer lives their life based on rules about food and body/wt. When a person is free to live their authentic life according to their soul and not dictated by rigid and inflexible rules/beliefs about food and body/wt. Recovery is about being in their lives and not avoiding their life – feeling and experiencing all of their emotions, being present in relationships, having experiences, growing”.
