EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I am a licensed clinical psychologist with 20+ years experience working with eating disorders. I see individuals, couples, and families in my private practice. I hold a Masters degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling and a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern California and postgraduate training at UC Berkeley with a research emphasis on eating disorders and addiction. I have worked with eating disorders at college counseling centers as well as in private practice. As a clinical psychologist at the student counseling center at UC Berkeley, I facilitated the Eating Disorder Treatment Team. I have lectured at UC Berkeley, University of San Francisco, and UC Irvine on the topic of eating disorders and body image. As a CEDS-certified supervisor, I am committed to training other professionals and currently lead a consultation group for psychotherapists treating eating disorders. I am a member of the American Psychological Association, Academy for Eating Disorders, Association for Eating Disorder Professionals-San Francisco, Binge Eating Disorder Association, and Bay Area Eating Disorders Alliance.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: As a psychotherapist, I am committed to helping my clients realize their goals including recovery from eating disorders. I use well-founded as well as innovative psychotherapeutic strategies including cognitive-behavioral techniques and psychodynamic approaches. In addition, I work collaboratively with other health practitioners including dietitians, physicians, and psychiatrists to optimize treatment success. In my work with families and couples, I implement techniques from FBT and UCAN.

I believe recovery is possible. I would define recovery as freedom from the eating disorder’s tyranny over one’s psyche and body. I believe recovery involves leading a rich, balanced, fulfilling life where eating disorder thoughts and behaviors take a back seat to living. Recovery may include having occasional disordered thoughts and feelings, with an ability to put these into perspective, understand their meaning and risks, and the ability to decide to choose health over illness.
