BOARD CERTIFIED: Yes, California Board of Psychology

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Number of years treating patients with eating disorders: 15 years

Number of patients with eating disorders I treat annually: 1-5

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: Ph.D. Stanford University 2004. Trained in FBT by Jim Lock at Stanford University to participate as a therapist in his research study assessing differences in effectiveness of FBT by length of treatment (6 mo vs. 12 mo). *Internship-Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital (Eating Disorders Inpatient Unit) Expertise; Children, adolescents, and adults with Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: When treating children and adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa, I actively participate as member of the treatment team, collaborating with the treating physician, nutritionist, etc. I have had great success with the Maudsley Family Based Treatment, and I use this as a first-line approach for youth. However, I also employ CBT and IPT when working with adolescents and adults.

I believe that individuals can return to a more typical way of life without the burden of constant thoughts of food and calories. Given that body weight and shape concerns are prevalent in the general population, I don’t expect that clients will never have concerns about their body or food, but the extent to which their thoughts and mood are dominated is significantly less. My goal is to support clients to develop healthy ways of coping with stress and successfully meet the developmental tasks of their age.
