Number of years treating patients with eating disorders: 10+ years
Number of patients with eating disorders I treat annually: 10-15
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I received my MA. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. My undergraduate work was at the University of Pennsylvania, where I was Valedictorian. I continue to learn through consultation with colleagues, continuing education, and through supervising pre- and post-doc students learning to work with patients with eating disorders.
TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: I have been seeing adults and adolescents in psychotherapy, first as a Psychological Assistant and then as a licensed Clinical Psychologist, since 1998. I provide both short- and long-term psychotherapy, and work with clients whose presenting issues include depression; anxiety; eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and obesity); obsessive-compulsive disorder; personality disorders; Asperger’s Syndrome; chronic illness; substance abuse issues; sexual orientation and gender identity issues; and job and relationship transitions.
My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic, and informed by the particular needs of an individual client. However, I have a long-standing interest in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic approaches to treatment (object relational, intersubjective, and self-psychological approaches in particular). In addition, I have studied Buddhist meditation practices for 23 years and yoga for 12 years, and the wisdom, ways of conceptualizing the self, and orientation towards mindfulness and joy in each of these spiritual systems informs my work with clients.
