EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: My name is Emily Champoux and I am a Registered Dietitian based in San Francisco, CA. I have been practicing as a dietitian in the disordered eating space since 2019. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in nutrition and later went on to get my Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan. After completing my dietetic internship at the University of Michigan I passed the RD exam and started practicing in California. I worked for just over a year at a IOP/PHP eating disorder clinic called the Lotus Collaborative where I supported clients with a variety of eating disorders and from diverse backgrounds. My areas of expertise include eating disorders, body image issues, challenging fat phobia and athletes w/ eating disorders, etc.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: I’m glad you’re here. Seeking support for an eating disorder takes courage and can be the hardest first step. As someone who’s recovered from an eating disorder and had to take that first step before, I resonate with the struggle. I have worked with a variety of clients of various gender and racial identities with various eating disorders (ARFID, anorexia, binge eating disorder, bulimia, orthorexia).

Working with me at the OP level isn’t anything to be scared of. It starts with a phone call where we chat more about the support you are looking for and a brief history around your eating disorder (i.e. is this the first time you are seeking support, are you transitioning from a higher level of care, etc.)

After that we can discuss a plan for supporting you in your recovery. I often ask clients to work with a therapist as the support of a registered dietitian is important but not enough when it comes to the deeper work around the origins of our eating disorder. Think of your therapist and I as two members of your care team managing a chronic health condition; we work together to offer support but in different ways and serving different purposes.

My philosophy focuses on empowering you to make the decisions that are best for you and your recovery. I pride myself in building authentic relationships with each and every one of my clients. I do this by taking the time to get to know you as an individual, your story and identities so I can provide the best care possible.

In sessions, I bring a light-hearted attitude, so it’s not uncommon for both of us to leave our call laughing. At the end of the day, my client’s experience is of the utmost importance and when you come into session with me you can expect a safe space free of judgment or stigma. Come as you are, all are welcome.
