The Eating Disorders Resource Center (EDRC), a non-profit organization focused on raising community consciousness and understanding of eating disorders, has recently been awarded a $25,000 Kaiser Permanente grant.
The grant will help support the EDRC’s Support Towards Recovery and Getting Connected programs, which provide direct services to those struggling with eating disorders and their families in Santa Clara County and surrounding areas. The programs provide free support groups and help clients find appropriate treatment options.
Nearly 30 million people will experience an eating disorder in their lifetime, according to the National Eating Disorders Association.
Kaiser Permanente supports local community-based organizations, like the EDRC, as part of its commitment to improve health in the communities it serves.
“We recognize the importance of early intervention for individuals experiencing eating disorders and their families,” said Rakesh Chaudhary, MD, physician in chief for the Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center. “We know this grant will help the EDRC provide valuable resources and support to people in our community who are struggling.”
Many of EDRC’s clients have low incomes, may be uninsured, and often have not received the level of care they need for recovery.
EDRC Executive Director Janice Bremis said Kaiser Permanente’s support will provide much needed support to their clients.
“We are grateful to Kaiser Permanente for investing, not only their dollars, but also their staff time and expertise in our efforts,” Bremis said.
