EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I was a site director and program director at CASSY for the high schools program. I had many clients with eating disorders and have worked closely with providers from various disciplines (Dr.’s, nutritionists, nurses, etc) as part of a team approach to treating eating disorders.
TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: I take a team based approach, which involves both family as a support system as well as providers. I feel it takes a village to support someone with a full blown eating disorder and the first step is to get clients stable nutritionally before any other kind of work can be done, so I will work closely with doctors and nutritionists and family to make sure that is happening. Once clients have begun the process of eating (whether of their own accord or with monitoring by family or doctors) then I feel the therapy process can start. Figuring out what is going on behind the eating disorder, what needs are not being met and what role the eating disorder plays (perhaps uncovering what they are avoiding thinking about by having the eating disorder), is generally where we focus in therapy.
