EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: Debra received her Masters of Science in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin nearly 10 years ago. Her concentration was Mental Health and Chemical Dependency. Debra is expected to receive a certificate in treating eating disorders from JFK University in November 2007.
TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: Client and clinician work collaboratively towards achieving client’s goals. I explore a variety of therapeutic techniques within my scope of practice with clients to find the ones which appear to be resonate and be effective with each individual. My hope is that each person leaves my office experiencing a feeling of being supported and increased self-awareness and self-acceptance.
Recovery from eating disorders is possible! My belief and experience regarding recovery from eating disorders includes the idea that recovery is a process involving physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects healing and reintegrating into a whole being where all parts of ourselves are accepted and nurtured as being vital to our being human. A person’s openness, motivation, availability of internal and external resources and perseverance is an essential criteria to recovery.
