My internship was at the YWCA of Silicon Valley in San Jose. I have been part of a consultation group for 7 years which is psychodynamically focused.

Taking the time and space to know ourselves can be exhilarating, but it can be daunting and sometimes terrifying when done alone. Psychodynamic work focuses on not just the reduction of symptoms, but also on fostering the most of an individual’s psychological capacities and resources; whether it means more satisfying relationships, tolerating a wider range of emotions or facing life’s challenges with greater freedom and flexibility.
Yes, I do believe it is possible to recover from an eating disorder. Recovery is not just about reducing or abstaining from the symptoms of an eating disorder. It is about finding ways within each individual to foster the most of one’s psychological capacities and resources; whether it means more satisfying relationships, tolerating a wider range of emotions or facing life’s challenges with greater freedom and flexibility. Achieving those things without being bound by the constraints of an eating disorder: that is recovery.
