EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE:We are committed to providing effective treatment by a professional team with years of experience and deep compassion for the complexity of the recovery process. Our therapists include highly trained Master and Doctoral level professionals with numerous advanced specialties. Our team of therapists, dietitians and nurses is experienced in treating both the physical symptoms of eating disorders and the underlying issues that cause them. Our staff have extensive training in an array of therapeutic modalities including: CBT/DBT, Expressive Therapies, Internal Family Systems, Schema Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention. The staff at Monarch Cove is also equipped to treat co-occurring disorders commonly associated with eating disorders. These include depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), multiple addictions and other conditions. By also specializing in the areas of nutrition, nursing, psychiatry and behavioral therapy, we are able to provide comprehensive care.

As part of our treatment philosophy at Monarch Cove, we believe that every individual presents a unique case and deserves to be treated based on his or her specific needs. No two clients are alike, and each client’s eating disorder symptoms are accompanied by different underlying issues. Monarch Cove makes it a priority to provide the physical and emotional care each client needs in order to begin a total recovery. Many times our clients enter our program not knowing what has contributed to the maintenance and development of their eating disorder or co-occurring disorders. At Monarch Cove, our team believes in incorporating evidence based approaches alongside innovative techniques. We combine Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Internal Family Systems Therapy, expressive therapies such as art therapy, dance/movement therapy and psychodrama along with life coaching. Our goal is to help our clients to uncover the underlying dynamics and deal with the root of the eating disorder. This process takes varied amounts of time for each client and thus we develop a unique treatment plan with unique goal, objectives and assignments for each client who walks through our doors. Because family members and support teams are important to each client’s recovery, we also encourage family involvement whenever possible.

Yes, we think it is possible to recover from an eating disorder. Recovery is not just the absence of symptoms, although this is a necessary component of the recovery process. Recovery is the presence of a full life as evidenced by the ability to be human. A truly recovered life will reflect spontaneity, freedom, the ability to breathe, to have wants, needs and desires, knowing that the quest for perfection is an unattainable illusion. Having the ability to embrace the feminine or masculine, having close intimate relationships, and it is being aware of the tears in your eyes (whether out of intense or subtle sadness – or out of joy – or from a flicker of utter gratefulness) and then to allow your tears to flow freely. It is a life in which decisions and choices are made more from self and less from a shame and fear based prison. It is a life where you fully experience pleasure, joy, and passion and believe and know it is good to desire live.
