CREDENTIALS/DISCIPLINE: Sliding scale clinic, staffed by licensed therapists, and trainees, as well as nutritionists, RDs, licensed acupuncturist. Treats entire range of eating disorders in outpatient setting. APTED also offers free referral information to higher levels of care, as well as to other providers. Bay-Area wide services, although clinic in San Francisco.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE:Staff varies in amount of training, from quite experienced to interns and trainees. Supervisors are all quite experienced, from 10 to 30 years. (I checked 2-5 years in question number 7, because it required that a box be checked; staff experience varies from 0 to 1 year to over 30 years.)

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY:

Team approach, multi-modality treatment center. Psychodynamic psychotherapy, mixed where pertinent with CBT, DBT. Also group therapy available at clinic. Other modalities (nutritional, etc.) available as well.

Developing the coping skills and resiliency to deal with life’s challenges on their own, without turning to eating disorder symptoms.

CONDITIONS TREATED: Abuse, Addictions, Affective Disorders, Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, Co-Morbidity, Compulsive Exercise, Dissociative Disorders, Night Eating Syndrome, NOS (Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Overeater, and Overweight.

TREATMENT APPROACHES: Art Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral, Couples Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Family Therapy, Group Therapy, Individual Therapy, Support Groups, and Other (please specify) – acupuncture.

TREATMENT SETTINGS: Outpatient.
