CREDENTIALS/DISCIPLINE: I am a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in eating disorders and sexual abuse. I completed the JFK eating disorder certificate program in April of 2006.

Board Certified: No

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Number of years treating patients with eating disorders: 2-5 years

Number of patients with eating disorders you treat annually: 15+

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: In 2001 I graduated from San Jose State with a Masters degree in counseling psychology. I trained at the Giarretto Institute (treatment for sexual abuse), and completed a private practice internship that specialized in assessments for bariatric surgery. I completed the JFK eating disorder certificate program in April 2006. I am currently in private practice in San Jose working with adolescents, adults and families around compulsive eating issues, and food restriction. I treat anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, night eating syndrome, and other compulsive behaviors such as over-exercising.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY:

My approach is to develop a healthy lifestyle. I work with individuals to uncover the underlying emotional issues that may be driving their eating disorder behavior. I also focus on reducing compulsive behaviors, increasing social activity, reducing negative thought processes and anxiety. I provide individual, family and group therapy.

I feel you can recover from an eating disorder. Recovery is a process. Individuals need to recognize that eating disorder behavior does not just stop. Recovery is a process of understanding what drives the behavior, and learning new and healthy ways to reduce anxiety and deal with intense feelings. Recovery begins when individuals become strong enough to ask for help, and begin the path of discovery. Learning to “do life” vs. “doing food” begins the process of discovering who you really are, and allowing you to focus of what you want your life to be.
