With all clients I try to impart hope that recovery is possible. I listen and tailor the use of skills along with time to reflect for each person. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialiectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients become more mindful and develop skills to change behavior. I believe in honoring the experience of each client to help pace therapy and determine when the therapy is complete.
Yes, I think it is possible to recover from an eating disorder. I define recovery as the ability to live life grounded in your own values. To feel you have learned how to shift away from unhelpful thoughts and behaviors and move towards what matters most. To become aware of the ways we are sensitive creatures and to be wiling to listen to and meet our own needs.
