EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I have specialized in the treatment of eating disorders since the beginning of graduate school in 1989, and since then have received hundreds of hours of advanced training. My internships were in the eating disorders unit of Marshall Hale Hospital and in the private of William Prey, MD. I have been working with men, woman, teens with eating disorders for almost 20 years and have advanced training in all aspects of eating disorder treatment.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY:

I use a variety of approaches and modalities to suit the needs of the individual. For adults struggling with compulsive over eating I focus on intuitive eating. With teens fighting anorexia and bulimia I use a family based modified Maudsley approach. I use cognitive, behavioral and interpersonal therapeutic techniques.

I think it is possible to recover from an eating disorder. I believe it is possible to fully recover from the behavioral and psychological symptoms of an eating disorder. It is possible to learn to listen and follow the natural wisdom of the body, to no longer obsess over decisions with food, and to recovery from body dysmorphia. Full recovery means coming to accept the body and its natural flaws. The sooner the eating disorder is treated the more likely full recovery is.
