Wendy starts slowly, one step at a time, in a way that would feel comfortable and safe for you. She works on rebuilding your relationship with food. She doesnt believe in dieting but will help you to achieve a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

How I would define recovery: Feeling comfortable with all foods, eating spontaneously and freely without guilt, anxiety, or fear. Feeling good about your body. Avoiding perfectionistic thinking – no one’s diet is perfect! Having fun with food. No obsessing.

CREDENTIALS/DISCIPLINE: MS, RD, CHES, RYT Certified Wellcoach-Health and Wellness Coach

Board Certified: No

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Number of years treating patients with eating disorders: 2-5 years

Number of patients with eating disorders you treat annually: 15+

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I am a Registered Dietitian, Nutrition Therapist, Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Licensed Health and Wellness Coach and Registered Yoga Teacher. I received my Bachelors of Science Degree from Simmons College in Boston in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics. I completed my Dietetic Internship and Clinical Specialty rotation in Eating Disorders in Boston and Cambridge, Ma. My Masters Degree was completed in Milan, Italy at L’Universita Bocconi (SDA School of Management). I have many years of personal and professional experience working with patients with disordered eating and clinical research. For many years I held a position as a health educator and facilitator in the Medical Weight Management program for Kaiser Permanente. Recently I held a position at Cielo House in Belmont, Ca as a Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Therapist for adults and adolescents in both the PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) and IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program).

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY:

My nutrition philosophy and coaching style is based in behavioral science and looks at the whole person. Incremental behavior change is difficult and challenges are hard to face. My style is compassionate and encouraging. My goal is to help clients reconnect with their inner wisdom about eating. As a coach I help my clients create a healthy and satisfying relationship with food and their body. As a yoga therapist/teacher, I teach restorative yoga to help create the stillness necessary to increase awareness, mindfulness, and acceptance. I help clients identify eating/food triggers, tackle environmental obstacles and barriers and breakdown walls that prevent healthy relationship with exercise, nutrition and mindfulness.

I believe recovery from an eating disorder is possible. I also believe that recovery comes in all shapes and sizes and all shades. Recovery is a continuum and timing is key. A client may be ‘recovering’ as they abstain from eating disorder behaviors and symptoms resolve. A client is recovered when thoughts, urges, triggers and old habits do not dominate behaviors. Recovery happens when a client accepts him or herself and no longer uses destructive behaviors, establishes and maintains a healthy relationship with food and exercise, and personal relationships. Early recovery is active and full recovery is empowering. Recovery from an eating disorder involves self-acceptance, self-love and behaviors and beliefs that are aligned for health and wellbeing.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY:

Cassie strives to help others understand how the mind and body work together in regulating our body’s hunger and fullness cues. She further aims to restore healthy thoughts and perceptions about food and our bodies through a mindful and intuitive eating approach to nutrition. She believes a solid nutrition education foundation can help to dismiss myths and misleading nutrition information that may be consumed and misinterpreted.

Yes, I think it is possible to recover from an eating disorder. Recovery is a flexible process in which the mind and body make peace with food. Recovery is being able to act on hunger cues and respect when our body asks for food. Recovery is being able to enjoy food with others and sit comfortably with the feeling of fullness. Recovery is being able to rationalize irrational thoughts and dismiss them from our mind. Recovery is not perfect and breaking the ideals of perfection when it comes to food/our bodies is part of the process.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Number of years treating patients with eating disorders: 2-5 years

Number of patients with eating disorders you treat annually: 15+

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I received my B.S. in Foods and Nutrition with an emphasis in Dietetics from California Polytechnic State University, Pomona. Since then, I have continued to expand my knowledge and practice by completing over one thousand supervised practice hours and passing a national examination in order to receive registration as a Dietitian. TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY:

I take a holistic, open, and honest approach to nutrition therapy. I believe in bringing attention, awareness, and curiosity to food-related behaviors in order to move past self-limiting patterns. I work with clients to separate food and nutrition from feelings, as well as, health and happiness from weight and body size.

Yes, I believe it is possible to recover from an eating disorder. Recovery is the complete seperation between food/nutrition and feelings/self-worth. It is being in-tune with and honoring your bodies physiological cues and needs. When one is recovered food and body thoughts come from a caring, nurturing place and occur naturally through-out the day. Certain foods or a number on the scale hold no charge or power over you.
